Regional Club Celebrates 45th Anniversary

The Center of the Nation Appaloosa Horse Club is very pleased to celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2005.  As described in 50 Years of the Appaloosa Horse by Edith Stanger, "A new regional Appaloosa horse club was formed in Rapid City, South Dakota, on September 24, 1960.  Named The Center of the Nation, the C.O.N., the club will cover South Dakota and surrounding areas."

Over the 45 years, there have been a number of changes – in horses, in members, and in activities.  But one thing has remained constant… the CON ApHC sponsors or participates in several events throughout the year to help promote and enjoy the Appaloosa horse.  In March 2005 there will be an informational booth at the South Dakota Horse Fair in Sioux Falls, and the club is sponsoring their “Spring Spotacular” horse show over Memorial Day weekend in Sioux Falls.  This Appaloosa show held in May has traditionally been a very successful show, with high-point awards given in a number of categories.  In addition, there will be a CPO clinic and a Silent Auction at the Spring Spotacular this year.  The Center of the Nation ApHC also has a stallion auction and futurity.  The futurity classes are judged at the Sioux Empire Fair that takes place in August in Sioux Falls.  The CON ApHC holds a Fall playday that is open to all horses with awards in several fun classes.  At all of these events, and at many other activities in 2005, the members of the CON ApHC will be raffling off a scooter decorated to pay tribute to the USA.
